Vancouver, B.C. — As Canada’s electric vehicle (EV) market faces some headwinds, Create Climate Equity is charging ahead with the launch of the Clean Mobility Pilot, a community-based initiative that aims to make sustainable transportation more accessible.

For this pilot, Natural Resources Canada provided $500,000 to Create Climate Equity, which has partnered with Kambo Energy Group to deliver this program with the Aboriginal Housing Management Association and the BC Indigenous Housing Society. The project increases education and awareness of EVs and aims to give low-income residents access to clean mobility options while offering a scalable model for equitable clean transportation in other urban settings.

“The Clean Mobility Pilot demonstrates how innovative, community-led approaches can raise awareness of clean transportation options for everyone,” said Tim Hodgson, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources.

“Clean mobility isn’t just about technology — it’s about people,” said Zoë Royer, Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Coquitlam. “Through this pilot, we’re helping families connect to sustainable transportation options that are affordable, accessible, and community driven. It’s a model for how we can build a cleaner and fairer future together.”

Building on community-led engagement completed in 2024, the project offers educational workshops informed by community priorities, Ride and Drive events that get residents behind the wheel of an EV, and a resident-led EV ride-share pilot operated by trained community members.

“This project reflects CCE’s dedication to applied research and support for equitable and just energy efficiency programming,” said Yasmin Abraham, Director with Create Climate Equity. “We’re also drawing on Kambo’s 16 years of experience designing and delivering co-created community programs that help households and communities use energy more efficiently, equitably, and affordably. Thanks to our project partners and generous support from Natural Resources Canada, we’re taking important steps toward clean, inclusive mobility for all.”

With additional funding from BC Hydro, the City of Vancouver, and United Way, and delivery support from Modo, TransLink, and the Fraser Basin Council, the Clean Mobility Pilot represents a step forward in building cleaner, fairer transportation systems.

The program aims to demonstrate how equity-centred climate solutions can empower communities while shaping more effective program design nationwide.

We honour the rich histories, cultures, and traditions of all the Indigenous communities — First Nations, Métis, and Inuit — on whose lands we gather, and whose stories, insights, perspectives, and partnerships deepen our impact. We are grateful to the First Peoples who have stewarded these lands since time immemorial and continue to protect the land, water, and community where we live and work.
